Safety & Economic Concerns
Reasons we need to look deeper!
On April 18th the League of Women Voters of Coos County presented a 2nd Informational Forum to the Community at the Egyptian Theater to help everyone understand the negative impacts of the Jordan Cove Energy project vs the short-term benefit of jobs. We believe the long-term negative impacts to the climate and human populations as well as the near-term impacts to our fishing and tourism industries, far outweigh any positive short-term economic benefits.
Our goal was to educate the community about how unsafe this project is to our environment as well as their own personal well-being. And to help them understand the arguments related to short-term vs long-term economic benefits.
This presentation dealt with the negative impacts of dredging the bay & widening the channel. It shows how noise and sound pollution will affect not only the animal life in and near the bay, but will also be detrimental to the human population as well. Ships coming and going only at high tides, requiring a Coast Guard imposed clearance of 500’ will interfere with people’s ability to use the bay to fish and conduct other water related activities.
A web broadcast of the forum in its entirety can be viewed here.
