Join us for the Hot Topic - Buying Elections: What You Should Know About Campaign Finance on Friday, October 7, 2022 at Noon via Zoom. The LWV CDC Civic Education Committee is offering this webinar to provide participants with greater insight and understanding of how political campaigns are paid for, how to find out who is providing the money, and what the consequences of this system are.

The program will include a general introduction to the topic by Kelly Kauffman of Open Secrets, “the nation's premier research group tracking money in U.S. politics and its effect on elections and public policy.” She will then offer a demonstration of how to access the resources available to the public on the OpenSecrets website to help our members and voters track the flow of money in American Politics.

Kelly will also moderate a panel discussion with our expert panel of investigative reporters: Taylor Giorno of OpenSecrets with a national perspective, and Angela Couloumbis of Spotlight PA with a focus on Pennsylvania politics. They will be able to relate this timely topic to the upcoming elections in November and answer questions from attendees.

Presenters:
Kelly Kauffman, Outreach and Social Media Manager, OpenSecrets
Taylor Giorno, Money-in-Politics Reporter, OpenSecrets
Angela Couloumbis, Investigative Reporter, Money in Government and Politics, Spotlight PA

The Hot Topic presentation is FREE but to receive the link to the Zoom Virtual Meeting via email you MUST register.
