Now that the 2020 census data has been released, it's time to get serious about gerrymandering. All League members are invited to attend a workshop presented by Fair Districts PA Wednesday, Aug. 18, at 7 p.m. to learn how to analyze your own congressional and state Senate and House districts, and tell the state Legislature how district lines can be redrawn more equitably.
Fair Districts, sponsored by LWVPA, will look at how values such as compactness, continuity and community of interests can be used in creating maps. You'll have the opportunity to look at the winning maps from FDPA's recent mapping contest and they'll invite community input through the comparison of maps and through suggesting alternatives.
You'll learn how to use analytic tools to compare maps and to recognize tradeoffs, constraints, and possibilities including racial equity and maximizing minority voices. We'll use breakout rooms to begin community mapping conversations on a local level.
