The League of Women Voters of Oak Ridge welcomes the community to Lunch With the League from 11:30 AM EST – 1:00 PM EST on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at the Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church, 809 Oak Ridge Turnpike. All are welcome to bring their lunch or purchase a boxed lunch for a nominal fee. Coffee and tea will be served. The presentation will begin at noon.

Artificial Intelligence Policy and Societal Implications

Dr. Lynne E. Parker is Associate Vice Chancellor and Director of the AI Tennessee Initiative at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK). For four years (2018-2022) she served various roles in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, including as Founding Director of the National Artificial Intelligence Initiative Office, Deputy Chief Technology Officer of the United States, and Assistant Director of Artificial Intelligence. At UTK, she previously served as Interim Dean of the Tickle College of Engineering (TCE), Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Engagement in TCE, and Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. She also previously served at NSF as Division Director of Information and Intelligent Systems. She spent several years at Oak Ridge National Laboratory as a Distinguished Research and Development Staff Member. She received her PhD in Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Lunch with the League welcomes League members and nonmembers alike to this informative presentation. The League of Women Voters of Oak Ridge is a nonpartisan political organization for men and women. It encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and
advocacy.
