Did you want to know the status of crimmigration in Tennessee; the co-operational role that ICE has (and seeks to get) with local law enforcement; the state laws, including the denial of education to K-12 students, that are proliferating and why; the tragedies across our nation with ICE enforcement? Join us for a thought-provoking presentation by Dr. Meghan Conley, Associate Director of Practice at UTK.

Dr. Conley’s work focuses on Latinx migration, crimmigration, and applied sociology.  In addition to being a lecturer in the Department of Sociology, Dr. Conley is Director of Community Partnerships.  She is also a founding member of Allies of Knoxville’s Immigrant Neighbors (AKIN).

Dr. Conley is the author of Immigration Rights in the Nuevo South: Enforcement and Resistance at the Borderlands of Illegality. She has co-authored several books and several articles on Immigration; nativism; white supremacy; police and ICE and police interoperability; and unequal protection and racial disparities.

The public is invited to attend the lunch and lecture between 11:15 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church, 809 Oak Ridge Turnpike. All are welcome to bring their lunch or purchase a boxed lunch. Coffee and tea will be served. The presentation will begin at noon and end with questions and answers.

This presentation was originally scheduled for February 17, but has been rescheduled.
