Dr. Bruce T. Borchers, Superintendent of Oak Ridge Schools, will speak about "The State of the Oak Ridge Schools".  He will provide an update on activities and programs in the school system.

Borchers received his bachelor’s degree from Morningside College in Sioux, Iowa; an M.A. degree in educational administration from the University of South Dakota; an M.S. degree in secondary guidance counseling from Wayne State College; and his doctorate degree in educational policy and administration from the University of Minnesota. 

He taught elementary school and served as a guidance counselor and interim assistant principal in Iowa. He later served as principal of Mankato (Minn.) West High School.  From 2008 to 2010 he was associate superintendent of the Anoka-Hennepin secondary schools in Coon Rapids, Minn.

Prior to his 2013 appointment as superintendent of schools in Oak Ridge, Borcher was superintendent of the Rockwood (Minn.) School District. He was selected Alumni Educator of the Year for Morningside College in 2011, and is a member of several professional associations. Borchers and his wife, Shannon, have two children: Bailey and Jack.

Lunch with the League is a public service program open to the community. Membership in the League of Women Voters is not required and there is no cost to attend. No reservations are necessary.

The presentation will begin at 12:00 noon. Lunches are provided by the Soup Kitchen and are available at 11:30 a.m. on a first-come basis for $10, or you may purchase soup for $5, or you may bring your own lunch. Coffee and tea will be provided. 

The League of Women Voters of Oak Ridge, a nonpartisan political organization for men and women, encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.
