Keys Fillauer, retiring chair of the Oak Ridge Schools’ Board of Education, will speak on his 23 years of experience on the school board, on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at 12 noon during the first Lunch with the League meeting this fall of the League of Women Voters of Oak Ridge.

The public is welcome to attend the Lunch with the League from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church, 809 Oak Ridge Turnpike. All are welcome to bring their lunch or purchase a boxed lunch for a nominal fee. Coffee and tea will be served. The presentation will begin at noon.

Fillauer will speak on his challenges and accomplishments as board chair and member, as well as his vision for the future of our schools.

Fillauer has been a resident of Oak Ridge since 1968. He and his wife Melanie have one son, Dr. Parks Fillauer, a neuro-clinical psychologist who lives in Houston, Tex.

A graduate of the University of Chattanooga, he began his teaching and coaching career at Robertsville Junior High School (now Robertsville Middle School). He completed his teaching and coaching career at Oak Ridge High School, serving 31 years at Oak Ridge Schools.  

In 2001 he was elected to the Oak Ridge Board of Education and later became chairman of the board. In 2022, he served as president of the Tennessee School Board Association. 

Fillauer is the current foreman of the Anderson County Grand Jury. He has served on the board of directors of the Boys and Girls Club and is now a member of the Ronald McDonald House Board of Directors. 

He has been recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow, member of the Oak Ridge Sports Hall of Fame and the Anderson County Hall of Fame.

Lunch with the League welcomes League members and nonmembers alike to this informative presentation. The League of Women Voters of Oak Ridge is a nonpartisan political organization for women and men. It encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues and influences public policy through education and advocacy.
