The League shall not support or oppose any political party or any candidate. The Board and each member shall have the responsibility to maintain the non-partisanship of the organization. The President(s) and Voter Service Vice-President shall not take an active visible role in political candidates’ campaigns. A local board member or member of the nominating committee shall not run for or hold elective office.
A chair of a board committee or a director in charge of a portfolio shall bring to the attention of the board his/her plan to make a donation to or otherwise publicly support the campaign of a candidate running for local, state or national office. In addition, the Board shall decide on a case-by-case basis whether the individual’s identification with the candidate, an elected official or a political organization would interfere with the public perception of League as a non-partisan organization, taking into account the history of similar decisions, the individual’s standing in the community with respect to his/her League office, and any adverse publicity that might result to the League.
