SFV's Distinguished Speaker series
The San Fernando Valley Unit of LWVGLA has long curated a series of scholars weighing in on critical issues in American civil rights, government and jurisprudence. Recordings of these scintillating presentations are on the League's YouTube channel.
SFV's most recent speaker was Prof. Rachel VanLandingham's It’s Awful but is it Lawful? The Unprecedented Militarization of Immigration examines the legal issues around the unprecedented use of the National Guard in Los Angeles and other cities by the current administration. A national security law expert and former judge advocate in the U.S. Air Force (USAF), Prof. VanLandingham served 24 years on active duty, attaining the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. She is currently the Associate Dean for Research and the Irwin R.Buchalter Professor of Law at Southwestern Law School.
