On August 8th 2025, the League of Women Voters of California issued the following statement from Deputy Director Dora Rose in response to California’s proposed mid-cycle redistricting:
“The League of Women Voters of California is a non-partisan organization. We stand entirely apart from political parties on mid-cycle redistricting. We are squarely in the fight against President Trump’s authoritarian and dangerous policies that threaten the civil rights and liberties of all Americans. We stand with our sister League in Texas, and Leagues in other states, in opposing all attempts to gerrymander congressional lines on a partisan basis. California’s independent redistricting commission is the gold standard — a national model for fair elections, community input, and transparency. We understand the threat authoritarianism poses, but the way to fight it is not by breaking our own democratic safeguards. You don’t save democracy by imitating those who seek to destroy it – you save it by inspiring voters with bold ideas and principled leadership.” Read LWV California's letter to Governor Newsom, and state legislators here
