Democratic Policing: Citizen Participation in Policing Policy

The crisis in American policing, according to Barry Friedman, founder of NYU Law's Policing Project, can only be addressed by vigorous and persistent participation of citizens in helping to set policies governing police. For our April 5th League Day the LWV-PA Social Justice Committee and LWV-LA Committee on Criminal Justice Reform will present a discussion on how policing policy is actually made today, and why informed citizen engagement in policy setting is long overdue.

Professor Friedman will join us from New York via Zoom transmission. In addition, and in person, we'll hear from Max Huntsman, L A Sheriff's Department Inspector General, and Matt Johnson, Esq., member and former President of the L A Police Commission which makes policy and provides oversight to LAPD.
