Mission to Mission

On Sunday, May 1, 2022, the 626 Golden Streets Mission to Mission event, organized by ActiveSGV and presented by Metro Los Angeles, offered a celebration of community through art, music, dance, food, entertainment, and play along five miles of car-free streets for the public to traverse and explore—and the League was there!

League volunteers helped remind the massive number of participants at 626 Golden Streets that it’s voting season! The goals of the event were to promote sustainable modes of transportation, encourage recreation and exploration in and around San Gabriel Valley’s diverse communities, and improve the health of people of all backgrounds and income levels. Walkers, cyclists, skateboarders, and others of all ages took to the streets along the closed-off route between San Gabriel and South Pasadena.

We saw many new as well as familiar faces throughout the day-long event. Senator Portantino stopped by on his bicycle to say hello. Visitors to our booth were welcome to test their knowledge of civics to win a free Metro Pass. We helped those wishing to register due to a recent move or other changes that they wanted to see reflected in their voter registration. The most exciting visitors were those familiar with our work, who were enthusiastic about joining or helping us in our mission. All in all, it was a fun and productive day.
