Making Democracy Work through Candidate Forums

Local city government and school district candidate forums are truly grassroots democracy in action, and it is always gratifying to see people turn to the League as a trusted and competent manager of forums. In 2018 we saw a tangible increase in voter enthusiasm and involvement at all levels, and our LWV volunteers really enjoyed participating in them. In this major election year of 2020 it should be even more exciting.

Here are forums in February that we know for sure we will do. Keep checking the website as we get closer to election day for new listings. And if it is your own district, plan to attend!

Volunteering to help at candidate forums is one of the most satisfying and enjoyable ways to get involved with the League. We train moderators, question sorters, and timekeepers. You will always work with experienced people and benefit from clear, step-by-step manuals. Best of all for our members who work full-time, most forums are held in the evening, and this is a onetime job, not a long commitment. There is no greater “high” than having voters come up to you to express their gratitude and respect for the League. This is the work we do—join us!
