Help Recruit a Poll Worker Today!
Los Angeles County is facing a critical shortage of poll workers. Because of the pandemic, many of us longtime and dedicated poll workers will be unable to serve at the polls in October and November due to age and elevated susceptibility to the virus. There is another way we can serve, however—we can recruit our replacements! Ask friends, family, and neighbors to consider volunteering to be poll workers. This is an ideal opportunity for those looking for supplemental income and wanting to make a difference in the community.
Election Worker Eligibility
To become an election worker in Los Angeles County, you must be eighteen years of age or older (unless participating in the Student Election Worker Program), a resident of California, and a United States citizen registered to vote or a legal permanent resident.
To participate in the Student Election Worker Program, the student must be a U.S. Citizen or legal permanent resident of the United States (“green card” holder) and sixteen years old or older and in good academic standing, with a G.P.A. of 2.5 or greater. Students must get teacher and parental consent.
Legal permanent residents can participate in the democratic process by assisting voters at the polling place on Election Day under the New Americans Election Workers Program.
On Election Day, election workers must be available between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. to set up the polls, assist voters, and conduct poll-closing procedures. Hours at early voting sites may differ.
Although the L.A. County Registrar will be adhering strictly to L.A. County and California state public health and safety guidelines, please discourage people who are more likely to experience dangerous symptoms if infected with COVID-19 from applying.
Refer volunteers to the L.A. County Registrar’s Office to apply. Do it today—training will start soon!
