On Friday, February 17, the Voter Services Committee fulfilled a request from John Muir High School in Pasadena to host a voter registration booth at its STEM Career Fair. Muir’s Engineering and Environmental Science Academy (EESA) sponsored the event to encourage student interest in science, technology, and mathematics careers. Students were excited to talk to experts in their fields, such as a representative from NASA and another from a structural engineering firm that does work at Disneyland.

Voter Services Chair Susan Sosin joined other League volunteers she had recruited to work the booth. The other League members were Ultra Soto-Rojas, Gail Rolf, and Kay Adams. Our efforts netted a total of twenty students who completed voter registration forms—quite a rewarding outcome. During the event, Muir’s principal, Dr. Lawton Gray, stopped by our booth and took pictures with our team. He was extremely pleased to hear our results!

Voter Services has another voter registration event scheduled for April 22 at John Muir High School. It is truly gratifying to meet these young people and help them engage in civic life. If you are interested in enjoying the rewards of volunteering with us, get in touch!
