Thursday, October 7, 2021 - 10:00am to 11:30am

Many of us are concerned about the direction of laws that make voting more difficult. What are some of the forms of voter suppression that are visible today?

As attempts to suppress voting rights escalate, hear firsthand how we can fight tactics designed to rob people of their voices. Learn how we can educate ourselves and others so we know how to advance voting rights and never go back to a time when so many were denied access to the ballot box. Professor J. Morgan Kousser will speak on voting rights, his experiences as an expert witness testifying in major voting rights cases, concerns about minority voting rights, the history of education, and the legal and political aspects of race relations. We will consider the merits of legislative versus judicial solutions.

Our speaker is professor emeritus of history and political science at Cal Tech, the author of several books and many articles on voting rights, and a former editor of the journal Historical Methods. We are pleased to welcome Professor Kousser to Thursday with the League on October 7, 10:00–11:30 a.m. Please don’t miss this important presentation—we encourage you to invite friends and family to join us at this Zoom event. If you have questions for Professor Kousser, please send them now to events [at] lwv-pa.org.
