Women in Government

California Women Lead has released its latest report, The Status of Women in California Government in 2017. The report analyzes the make up of women in California’s city councils, statewide offices, Congressional Delegation, and more. Though women make up more than 50 percent of the population, we have yet to meet 50 percent representation in elected office at any level.

At the Women’s History Month event of March 15, 2018, organized by the Pasadena Commission on the Status of Women on March 15, two women who also happen to be League members were honored: Roberta Martinez and Dolores Hickambottom. They were welcomed and introduced by another League member, Pasadena Councilmember Margaret McAustin.

Effecting Change in Government on March 13, 2017 at Vroman’s was a presentation about citizen participation at various levels of local government.

Women on the March! was held at League Day March 2, 2017. It had a discussion of Gender Representation on City Commissions 2017, and the LWV-PA Advocacy Committee report was presented at the March League Day. Click to see the slides.

  • The League of Women Voters Pasadena Area took a look at where all the “she’s” are in government and found around 20 percent among elected officials at the local, state, and national levels. Women fared better, however, when it comes to appointments to local city commissions.

Our History showcases the progress of local women’s involvement in government, and advocacy on women’s issues
