Vote411 is League’s online election information website that LWV Hawaii County and began using in 2012 and LWV Honolulu in 2016.
We knew that 2022 would be a tough year for getting candidates to participate and tough to get the word out about Vote411.
The candidate filing period was shorter than usual due to the once-in-ten-years Redistricting. District boundaries shifted. Incumbents might be running against other incumbents. Candidates pulled papers for multiple races waiting for boundaries to be finalized. Some waited until the last week or day to file. First-time candidates without competitors in the Primary didn’t bother campaigning.
Despite these obstacles, about half of all candidates participated in Vote411 (51%), with candidates in Hawai`i County reaching 72%.
To even get to this level of responses, League volunteers spent countless hours calling, emailing and texting candidates.
Heartfelt thanks to the 26 LWV volunteers from Hawai`i Country and Honolulu Leagues who worked from March to July making calls:
- Website Administrators: Nina Buchanan and Donna Oba
- Caller Coordinators (and our clean-up crew): Sue Dursin, Margaret Drake and Helen Hemmes
- Honolulu Callers: Anne Marie Duca, Julie Dugan, Christopher Edwards, Leah Kaplan, Joy Marshall, Barbara Service
- Hawaii County Callers: Kit Afable, Dendra Best, Nancy Bondurant, Beverley Brand, Barbara Cigainero, Nina Eejima, Diane Herrera, Alexandra Hustace, Michele Mitsumori, Rosemarie Muller, Holly Plackett, Ruth Robison, Barbara Service, Deborah Winter and Toni Withington.
