The Political Science Department at the University of Hawaii at Hilo hosted events on September 15 & 16 to recognize US Constitution Day. Constitution Day celebrates the signing of the US Constitution by the delegates to the Constitutional Convention on September 17, 1787.
Faculty and staff from the Political Science Department were on hand to give out copies of the Constitution as well as prizes to people who could correctly answer questions regarding constitutional rights. Tables were set up in the plaza outside the University Union.
The League of Women Voters was on hand to register voters and provide election information and to promote the League's VOTE411.org website. The event was small but over the two days League volunteers registered six new voters and helped other voters check their voter registration status using the Office of Elections website at elections.hawaii.gov. Thanks to Kit Afable, Sue Irvine, and Brad Clark for representing the League at the event. Photo shows League volunteer Kit Afable at UH Hilo Constitution Day event.
