National Voter Registration Day, celebrated on September 20 this year, is a nonpartisan  civic holiday celebrating our democracy. Since first established in 2012, nearly 4.7 million voters have registered to vote on NVRD.  Celebrated every September, National Voter Registration Day involves volunteers and organizations from all over the country.

The League of Women Voters of Hawaii County participated in NVRD this year by setting up a voter registration and information table in the Hilo Public Library. League volunteers registered voters and distributed information regarding elections in Hawaii. Thanks to volunteers Ruth Robison (in photo), Rosemarie Muller, Kit Afable and Helen Hemmes we were able to register four new voters in Hawaii County as well as distribute information to many voters regarding the League's VOTE411.org website. The Hilo Public Library has also placed table tent cards on library tables and posted signs to publicize VOTE411.

National Voter Registration Day has been endorsed by the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS), the National Association of State Election Directors (NASED), the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC), and the National Association of Election Officials (The Election Center).
