The public is welcome to join us at the next general meeting of the League of Women Voters of Hawai`i County will be held in person and via Zoom on Saturday, August 26, 2023, from 9:30 a.m. (arrive by 9:20), at Mokupāpapa Discovery Center in Hilo.

Hawai`i County Council Member Jennifer "Jenn" Kagiwada will reflect on lessons learned, and still being learned, from her first 9 months representing District 2, and her priorities for South Hilo and the county as a whole. She will also talk about youth civic engagement and voting, followed by a time of Q&A.

We will also be recognizing the winners of the League of Women Voters of Hawai`i County's award for an outstanding project demonstrating civic engagement, advocacy or voter education in the strengthening of democracy and transparency at the 2023 Hawai`i History Day Hawai`i Island Fair. Hawai`i History Day is a program of the Hawai`i Council for the Humanities, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary.

MEETING DETAILS

The hybrid meeting will be held both in-person and via Zoom. Registration links below.

Those attending in person should plan to arrive by 9:20 a.m. at the site, Mokupāpapa Discovery Center, in downtown Hilo. We will be in the 2F meeting room, which is accessible by a beautiful stairway in the central display area. Light refreshments will be served prior to the meeting.

The Zoom link and other details will be sent closer to the event date. Please be sure to log in by 9:20 a.m. to avoid technical delays. 

SPEAKER BIO

Jenn Kagiwada serves as the Hawaiʻi County Council Member representing District 2, Hilo, on Hawaiʻi Island. She chair’s the Policy Committee on Health, Safety and Well-Being and is Vice-Chair for the Communications, Reports and Council Oversight Committee.

Jenn was the Hawaii Island Coordinator for Womenʻs March for 4 years and has a strong background fighting for womenʻs rights, working families and childrenʻs issues. She is passionate about good government and making sure the residents of District 2 know whatʻs going on at the County level.

Before coming to the county, Jenn spent decades working in schools, non-profits and government organizations. Jenn and her husband live and have raised their two children in Piihonua, Hilo.
