League’s national redistricting campaign, PPFM, began its second year last August. In the first year, Hawaii focused on celebrating League’s Centennial and the census (getting out the count).
In Year 2, our emphasis will be support for automatic voter registration (AVR) at the state level and support for U.S. Congressional bills, specifically HR 1 or For the People Act and HR 4 or the Voting Rights Advancement Act (VRAA). Talking points of the two Congressional bills are available.
A national People Powered Day of Action is scheduled for April 29, 2021. The purpose is to “shine a light on the redistricting process and demand fair maps.” Sample activities can be found here: https://www.lwv.org/sites/default/files/2021-02/Menu%20of%20activities_0.pdf
Training workshops are offered each month. Recent topics include Communities of Interest (identifying and engaging), mapping software, and Preparing Your Testimony.
If anyone is interested in the HR1 and HR4 talking points, training workshops, or chairing the PPFM Day of Action for LWV Hawaii, please contact Donna Oba (lwvhawaiicty [at] gmail.com).
Mahalo to LWVHC President Rosemarie Muller for reporting activities each month.
