Debates, candidate forums set for area's upcoming city elections

A series of candidate events for the Nov. 5 South Bend, Mishawaka and Elkhart general election will be offered to voters in a program organized by the American Democracy Project and the League of Women Voters.

All events will be two hours long, with time for an informal reception following the program. Voters can submit questions in advance or on note cards during the forums.

Here is the upcoming schedule:

• South Bend Meet the Candidates: 6 p.m. Monday at St. Joseph County Public Main Library, 304 S. Main St., South Bend. Candidates on the South Bend city election ballot.

• South Bend Mayoral Candidate Debate: 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Wiekamp Hall, Room 1001, IU South Bend, 1800 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend. Debate between Democrat James Mueller and Republican Sean Haas. Debate will be televised from 7-8 p.m. live on My Michiana TV and on ABC57.com.

• Mishawaka At-Large Candidate Forum: 6 p.m. Thursday at Mishawaka-Penn-Harris Public Library, 209 Lincoln Way E., Mishawaka. Five candidates are running for three at-large seats on the Common Council.

• Elkhart Mayoral Candidate Debate: 6:30 p.m. Oct. 7, Lerner Theatre, 401 S. Main St., Elkhart. Debate between Democrat Rod Roberson and Republican Dave Miller. Debate will be televised from 7-8 p.m. live on My Michiana TV and on ABC57.com.

• Elkhart Common Council Candidate Forum: 6:30 p.m. Oct. 8 at Lerner Theatre, 401 S. Main St., Elkhart. Forum featuring at-large and contested district candidates for Common Council.

• South Bend Common Council Contested District Candidate Forum: 9 p.m. Oct. 10 at Wiekamp Hall, Room 1001, IU South Bend, 1800 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend. Forum for candidates in Districts 4 and 5 on the Common Council.

• Mishawaka Common Council Contested District Candidate Forum: 6 p.m. Oct. 14 at Mishawaka-Penn-Harris Public Library, 209 Lincoln Way E., Mishawaka. Forum for candidates in Districts 2, 3 and 4 for Common Council.

• South Bend At-Large Candidate Forum: 6 p.m. Oct. 15 at Wiekamp Hall, Room 1001, IU South Bend, 1800 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend. Five candidates are running for three at-large seats on the Common Council.
