Lunch with the League Welcomes Latorya Green

SOUTH BEND – Latorya Green, an advocate for tobacco prevention and cessation, will be the speaker for the next Lunch with the League event at noon on Friday, Nov. 9 at the Chocolate Café, 122 S. Michigan Street. The event is sponsored by the League of Women Voters of the South Bend Area.

Ms. Green is the Tobacco Education Coordinator for the Saint Joseph Health System and serves as Community Coordinator for Smoke Free St. Joe Coalition. She will discuss the burden tobacco has on our community and state, emerging products such as e-cigarettes and the effect on our youth, and why stronger tobacco control policy is needed now more than ever.

Green holds a bachelor of science degree in health science from Ball State University, and a master’s degree in business administration and healthcare management is from Indiana Wesleyan University.

Green is a champion for public health, especially for underserved communities. She assisted the South Bend Common Council in passing a comprehensive smoke-free air ordinance, which went into effect in January of 2017.  It provides second-hand smoke protection for workers and residents in all public venues, including taverns, casinos, private clubs and tobacco shops and is widely considered the strongest smoke-free air ordinance in the state.

This event is free and open to the public. Attendees are welcome to arrive early to purchase lunch before the talk.
