Organizations to Provide “I Voted” Stickers to Voters

SOUTH BEND – The Republican Party and the Democratic Party of St. Joseph County, along with the League of Women Voters of the South Bend Area, are working to provide popular "I Voted" stickers to St. Joseph County Voters who cast ballots in the November General Election.

All three organizations will contribute to the cost and are also seeking community donations. Organizers of this community initiative hope to have the stickers available during the early voting period that begins October 10 as well as at polling places on Election Day, November 6.

To donate, please visit www.lwvsouthbend.org and click the “I Voted Stickers” link in the menu.

To donate by check, please write a check payable to LWV South Bend Area and mail it to League of Women Voters, 16402 Barryknoll Way, Granger, IN 46530.

Elizabeth Bennion, a political science professor who also serves as spokesperson for the local League, had this to say about the community sticker initiative: “The 'I Voted sticker is a badge of civic pride that has been a fixture at many polling places for decades. Now St. Joseph County voters can join the fun with walking reminders to get out and vote. "The power of the sticker goes beyond a visible reminder that it is Election Day, representing an attempt to bring back a sense of community that was once associated with voting. Although the League does not typically work directly with any political party, we are pleased to see the two major parties coming together to embrace a fundamental League mission – to promote and celebrate civic pride while encouraging all eligible voters to make their voices heard on Election Day.”

Lynn Fitzpatrick, St. Joseph County Republican Party Chair stated: “Every eligible voter needs to make an effort to educate themselves on the issues and the candidates and then make sure their voice is heard by voting. The stickers send this message to everyone who sees them.”

Debbie Ladyga-Block, Vice Chair of the St. Joseph County Democratic Party replied: “Voting is a fundamental right and privilege. We hope everyone will wear these “I Voted” stickers with great pride after exercising their civic duty!”
