The League of Women Voters welcomes Debra Futa as the speaker for our upcoming Lunch with the League event on Friday, May 10, 2019 at the Chocolate Café in downtown South Bend from 12:00 – 1:00 PM. Futa is the current Director of St. Joseph County Public Library. She will be speaking about the intention behind current programming at the Library, along with a discussion about the Library building project itself. Futa will welcome questions from attendees.
Futa grew up in North Liberty, graduated from North Liberty High School, then earned a bachelor's degree in history at Manchester College. She later earned a master's of library science degree at Indiana University Bloomington. Futa started working at the St. Joseph Public Library in 1979 as a work-study employee and in 1996 became the assistant director. In July 2015, she became the director of the countywide library system; the first new director of the library district in 37 years and only the sixth director in the library’s 126-year history.
This event is free and open to the public. Attendees are welcome to arrive early to purchase lunch before the talk.
