Strengthening Grassroots Democracy: The Work of Faith in Indiana
Through the St. Joseph County chapter of Faith in Indiana, ordinary members of local congregations and community groups move from being passive spectators to active participants in the political process. This multi-racial and multi-faith organization engages decision-makers to embrace concrete solutions to issues that impact our families and neighbors. During the next months, Faith in Indiana is organizing a robust voter engagement program, focussed especially on people of color, women and young adults.
Andre Stoner was part of the pastoral team at Kern Road Mennonite Church in South Bend for 17 years. He worked as "neighborhood networker" with the Near Northwest Neighborhood, where he has lived with his family for nearly twenty-five years, and is now a full-time organizer with Faith in Indiana.
