The League of Women Voters is pleased to welcome Diana Mendelsohn as the speaker for our upcoming Lunch with the League event on Friday, June 14, 2019 at the Chocolate Café in downtown South Bend from 12:00 – 1:00 PM. Mendelsohn is the owner of a fresh floral business, Green Earth and Gardens, which features organic and locally grown flowers. Mendelsohn will discuss the potential for attracting new businesses that could utilize millions of tons of valuable recyclables in the hope of creating new products we can use in the bioregion.

Mendelsohn has had an enduring passion for ecology and sustainability issues since the 1970s. She teaches Montessori style Jr. Master Gardening at local parks, churches, and at the South Bend Farmers Market. In addition to serving for more than 12 years at the Potawatomi Greenhouse Conservatories, she has been involved with 4-H youth gardening, and the Chet Waggoner Little League. Mendelsohn also served on the county Advisory Board for Recycling in the early 1990s at Governor Joe Kernan’s request.

Ten times a year she leads the Earth Scouts, ecology groups for families. Earth Scouts specialize in solar cooking, gardening, saving butterfly habitat, and all things sustainable.

This event is free and open to the public. Attendees are welcome to arrive early to purchase lunch before the talk.
