10 Things Everyone Should Know About Hospice Care

Mike Wargo of Hospice Foundation will speak at Lunch with the League on Friday, July 12, 2019, from 12:00 – 1:00 pm at the Chocolate Café, 122 S. Michigan, South Bend. His presentation will dispel some common myths about hospice care and will describe the admissions process, services delivered to patients and families, and the financial benefits available to every American over the age of 65.

While hospice is for patients whose condition is such that a doctor would not be surprised if the patient died within the next six months, this doesn't mean the patient is going to die in the next six months – it simply means that he or she has a condition that makes dying a realistic possibility.

Hospice Foundation is the supporting foundation of Center for Hospice Care (CHC), which serves nine Northern Indiana counties and is the largest provider of hospice services in the State of Indiana. Mike leads the team that creates, implements, and funds various programs, projects, and initiatives that advance CHC’s mission to improve the quality of living in the communities it serves.

Before joining the Hospice Foundation in 2008, Mike was an entrepreneur and spent his early career working principally in banking and higher education after serving in the U.S. Air Force following college. He’s earned certificates in executive leadership from the Mendoza College of Business at the University of Notre Dame and two degrees from Indiana University South Bend. Over the years, Mike has served in board and leadership positions with numerous organizations, including the Northern Indiana Workforce Investment Board, IU South Bend Alumni Association, American Institute of Banking, South Bend Parks Foundation, 1st Source Bank Business Banking Advisory Board, the Business Development Corporation and Michiana Public Broadcasting Corporation.

This event is free and open to the public. Attendees are welcome to arrive early to purchase lunch before the talk.
