The Willow began in 1976 as a loose network of safe houses for abused women, but today is a 501(c)(3) agency with two shelters, a crisis hotline, court and community advocacy, education, prevention, and transitional housing. Will Averill, director of communications for The Willow explained why domestic violence is a public health problem and what we can do to assist friends or family who may be in an abusive relationship.
