The Willow Domestic Violence Center: Shelter, Empower, Support

Will Averill, Communications Director for The Willow Domestic Violence Center
Thursday, November 18, 2021 - 12:00pm

The ratios are startling: 1 in 3 women, 1 in 4 men, and 30-50% of trans and non-binary folks will experience Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) in their lifetimes. The Willow began in 1976 as a loose network of safe houses for abused women, but today is a 501(c)(3) agency with two shelters, a crisis hotline, court and community advocacy, education, prevention, and transitional housing.  Will Averill, director of communications for The Willow explained why domestic violence is a public health problem and what we can do to assist friends or family who may be in an abusive relationship.
