Massachusetts Ballot Questions—Update

Election Day Registration On the Ballot

LWVCCA members already know that the Vote YES to uphold our state’s 2024 model Firearms Modernization legislation will be on the November 2026 ballot for Massachusetts voters.

Now the Secretary of the Commonwealth’s office has announced that the Election Day Registration ballot question has also received enough 2nd-round signatures to qualify for the ballot, as soon as the final certification occurs. Both the LWVMA and LWVCCA supported this petition, summarized here. The LWVMA states in their January LWVMA Statement on 2026 Ballot Questions : "The right to vote for every eligible American has been a fundamental League principle since its origin."

LWVCCA’s Legislative Committee and several League members helped make this happen, by submitting testimony, by collecting signatures at the Cape Cod Mall, the JFK Museum, and at various community meetings, by bending our legislators’ ears, and by talking with our Town Clerks, family, and neighbors.
This question allows citizens who missed the state’s voter registration deadline to appear at the polling place that serves their residence on Election Day. They may register and cast a ballot, with proof of residence and completion of a written oath. Our election officials will use Massachusetts’ central voter registration system to update their address, if needed, and require an oath attesting to eligibility—identity, citizenship, no duplicate voting at any previous address, and an acknowledgement that providing false information constitutes a felony.
After one final certification formality is completed, it’s on the ballot! Your YES vote would be the finishing touch!
