Gearing Up Again to Register Student Voters

National Voter Registration Day (NVRD) is Tuesday, September 28, and Michigan Tech is planning to host voter registration tables outside on campus that day from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Students and the general public are welcome to come by to learn how to register to vote, request an absentee ballot, and/or change their polling location in Michigan. As in years past, the League of Women Voters of the Copper Country will collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to run the event. NVRD has significant student engagement as Michigan Tech’s Undergraduate Student Government Political Affairs Committee, Intro. to Sociology students, and others volunteer their time to spread the word and staff the event.

Students can also learn about voting through a set of online lessons that instructors can easily import into the web-based learning management system (Canvas) for their courses. The lessons, titled “MTU Voter Engagement” cover MTU voting statistics, how to register and vote in any state, and voting absentee. MTU faculty and staff who use Canvas can find these lessons as a module in the Canvas Commons by searching for the title.
