For public release: Retraction of recent communications regarding Dearborn library funding

We have come to understand that our recent communications to our members regarding potential changes to the funding of Dearborn libraries contained incorrect information regarding the positions of City Council members and the proposed budget cuts. Consequently, these communications led to confusion and many challenges.

We acted out of a sincere concern for the libraries and their role in the City, with no intent to cause harm. However, we recognize that we responded in haste, given the perceived short timeline, and did not take sufficient time to perform due diligence and verify the information received from a trusted community source. Accordingly, we retract in full our June 1, 2022 communication regarding this matter.

We apologize for our unintended dissemination of misinformation and the resulting confusion and inconvenience to those involved directly in city funding matters and elsewhere. We continue to support our elected and appointed officials throughout the City of Dearborn and hope to move forward together to promote the residents’ best interests.

Sincerely,

The Board of Directors of the League of Women Voters of Dearborn–Dearborn Heights
