Be Part of National Voter Registration Day

On Tuesday, September 16, the League of Women Voters of the Cooperstown Area will once again be participating in National Voter Registration Day (NVRD), a nationwide, nonpartisan effort to register hundreds of thousands of voters. The League will hold three registration events in the Cooperstown/Oneonta area.

Registering voters is not difficult, and the League is offering two training/refresher classes in early September. If you are interested in becoming more involved in the League and in helping voters prepare for the November election, consider attending one of the training sessions. Voter services chair Anna Gaeta and Aviva Schneider well lead the classes at the Clark Sports Center in the Community Room on Wednesday, September 3, from 12 noon - 1:30 p.m. and Thursday, September 4, from 6 - 7:30 p.m.PDF icon Check out the meeting agenda.

Can you also volunteer for the event September 16? League members will be scheduled in two-hour shifts from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. The National Voter Registration Day events will take place at the Grand Union at the Commons shopping center in Hartwick Seminary, the Elm Inn at 104 E Main St., Milford, and the Green Toad bookstore, 198 Main Street in Oneonta.

Other registration events will be held at different locations throughout the area before the October 26 registration deadline. If you can't make any of the events on National Voter Registration Day, please still consider attending one of the trainings, so you can help at some of our later events.

If you have questions about the trainings, want to sign up for a class, or want to learn more about registering voters please, please annaegaeta [at] ymail.com (email) or phone (‭917-613-3927‬) Anna Gaeta.

Many people refer to the election years when we elect local officials as “off year” elections. But the decisions made by these officials affect daily life in our communities from keeping our roads plowed in the winter to making sure our county government is functioning. These elected officials may not live in Albany or Washington, D.C., but their decisions are just as important to our lives. So our league will also be encouraging voters to register and get excited about picking local leaders. Can you be part of our work with this endeavor?
