Panel discussion on African American Women in the Suffrage Movement and the Battle for the Vote.

Thursday, September 12, at 7:15 p.m. in the William G. McGowan Theater of the National Archives.

As part of the National Archives Centennial Exhibit, Rightfully Hers, there will be a public panel discussion on what role did African American women play in the suffrage movement, and what were the barriers they faced? Join us as we discuss their stories, challenges, achievements, and what they confronted in the battle for the vote.

Moderated by Scott Abbott, Social Studies Director, District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS), panelists include A'Lelia Bundles, author of On Her Own Ground: The Life and Times of Madam C. J. Walker; Shirley Moody-Turner, Professor of African American Studies, Pennsylvania State University; and Elsa Barkley Brown, Professor of History and Women's Studies, University of Maryland.

Presented in celebration of the exhibition at the National Archives, Rightfully Hers and in partnership with the 2020 Women's Vote Centennial Initiative and the National Council of Negro Women.
