June 2020 Census Update
Everyone Counts!
Help make sure the 2020 census is a fair count! You can help change history and shape the future!
Three things you can do right now:
- Respond to the Census
- Learn more about the Census
- Educate your family and friends about the importance of the Census
#1 – Respond to the Census
Have you responded to the Census? It has never been easier to do. You can safely respond to the census from your own home:
- By mail (by returning the Census questionnaire)
- Online at my2020census.gov
- Or by phone at 844-330-2020
Despite the Coronavirus stay-at-home requirements, the 2020 Census started April 1. Over 70 million households have responded to date, representing about half of all households in America. and more households across America are responding every day.
Remember, only one person needs to respond for an entire household.
So be sure your household has responded!
#2 – Learn more about the Census and its importance
- View these three short videos that speak to the importance of the Census in our current world of COVID-19:
-
The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic will be felt long after the control of the disease. The 2020 Census data will determine the number of seats each state gets in the House of Representatives and will affect how districts are redrawn in 2021. Congressional seats in Oregon could be on the chopping block. Data affects how federal funds will be spent on important public projects like roads and schools. Billions of $ in federal funding for each state is on the line. Now more than ever, your participation is needed.

#3 – Educate your family and friends about the importance of the Census
The 2020 Census will provide a snapshot of our nation — who we are, where we live, and so much more. If everybody’s not in the picture, all the plans that are made over the next decade, not just by federal, state and local governments but by businesses, medical facilities, home builders, and more, will be out of focus. Think about friends and members of your family whose needs might not be met in 2029 because they weren’t in the snapshot in 2020.
As of June 18th, Oregon had 64% of its responses to the Census turned in. Coos County only 58.6%, North Bend 69.9% and Coos Bay only 64.4%. Reports coming in indicate that just barely over half of all households in the US have responded.
Have you asked any of your friends or family if they’ve responded to the Census? They might just thank you for the reminder.
Or they might just ask you why bother. Show them the videos from Step #2. Or just point them to our information page.
Thanks for helping!
