Reject Governor Bakers Amendments to Police Reform and ROE Act

Reject Governor Bakers Amendments to Police Reform and ROE Act

Reject Gov Baker's Amendments
Time Range For Action Alert:
December 14, 2020 to December 23, 2020

Let us make our democracy worthwhile for ALL by standing up for police reform and reproductive justice rights in the Commonwealth TODAY. The Legislature will be in formal session Tuesday through Friday to work on police reform and the budget—including the ROE Act provisions. Contact your state representative and state senator and urge them to reject Governor Baker’s amendments that undermine these measures.

Police Reform Governor Baker returned S.2963An Act Relative to Justice, Equity and Accountability in Law Enforcement in the Commonwealth, to the Legislature with amendments that will weaken it—and in the words of Massachusetts leaders of color—“ignore through delay the very people and communities most impacted and harmed by police”. Please contact your state representative and state senator TODAY and urge them to reject the amendments and return the strongest possible bill to the Governor's desk as quickly as possible. Delays will weaken it as opposition will add amendments to dilute it. Read more about the amendments and why we need to reject them here

Abortion Rights/ ROE Provisions After years of threats to women’s access to reproductive health care, the Massachusetts Legislature prioritized making reproductive health care accessible to all Bay Staters. Through the budget, lawmakers took urgent, meaningful steps to improve access to abortion in our state. In his proposed budget amendments, however, Governor Baker failed to recognize the critical need to improve access. Please contact your state representative and state senator TODAY to ask them to reject Governor Baker’s amendments to the ROE provisions. You can take action to ensure equitable abortion access for those who need it, especially communities of color and people with low-incomes.
