In August, the U.S. House of Representatives introduced H.R. 4, the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act (VRAA), and moved quickly to pass it on August 24! This legislation is vitally needed to fully restore the 1965 Voting Rights Act and ensure that discriminatory voting tactics are stopped in their tracks. Next stop: an evenly divided Senate, where the bill faces an uphill climb against the rule of the filibuster. We must aggressively continue to apply pressure on lawmakers to pass the bill. We must ensure that every voter is treated fairly at the ballot box with equal access to the vote.
Join the League of Women Voters in calling for our lawmakers to show their leadership on the freedom to vote. It is time for you to make your voice heard in the protection of our democracy. We need YOU to contact the White House and tell President Biden to do what it takes to ensure that the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act becomes law!
