The Board of Directors held their Annual Retreat via Zoom on August 26. Here are some highlights:

    • Gayle Oswald resigned as President-Elect and the position is now vacant.
    • Kay Adams agreed to fill the vacancies of Membership Director and Membership Committee Chair.
    • Maureen Johnston resigned as Natural Resources Director and was replaced by Kathy Kunysz.
    • Both replacements were approved by vote with no objections.
  • The 2021 in-person ice cream social was canceled due to the pandemic’s status.
  • Mildred Dockery presented the financial report. After discussion, the budget item labeled “additional income” was renamed “donation” and moved to the donation category.
  • The Membership Committee is missing crucial demographic information from membership intake forms and is currently brainstorming ways to collect this information from members.
  • The Events Committee is hosting the October Thursday with the League — see the announcement here.
  • The Education Committee added a goal to its 2021–2022 list, which involves advocating for broadband to be added as a utility in the PUSD area. Many students do not have access to reliable WiFi connections for consistent internet access.
  • The Healthcare Committee reported that it is currently analyzing AB 1400, the Guaranteed Health Care for All bill. Also, although the October League @ Nite healthcare event has been canceled, the Committee will be hosting an upcoming event; more information will be released at a later date. Finally, the Committee is seeking new members.
  • The Development Committee is taking suggestions for who is going to be the guest speaker for the spring event it will be hosting.
  • The Immigration Committee has partnered with the San Diego League of Women Voters in following legislation that deals with immigration.
  • The Natural Resources Committee moved that a subcommittee on water be created, which passed with majority approval. The Committee is hosting monthly events at its meetings, the first to take place on October 14. See the announcement in “Save the Dates” in this issue of the Voter.
  • Carol Caley of the Communications Committee gave a presentation on how to develop flyers using the LWV-PA Flyer template. It was received with enthusiastic approval.
