Vigils were held across the country to remember the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the US Capitol building and citizens doing the work of government in it at the time. The gathering numbered about 80 people.
The Kent vigil was sponsored by the Portage County NAACP, Kent Interfaith Council and the League of Women Voters of Kent. Speakers were Frank Hairston, emcee, and John Kennedy of the PC NAACP; Iris Meltzer, president of the League of Women Voters of Ohio; Chris Clevenger Moore of the KSU Young Democrats; and Nancy Warlop of KIFA.
Pastor Denzel Jones of the United Church of Jesus Christ in Ravenna offered up prayers to begin and end the vigil. Speakers were invited from political parties in Portage County, Ohio. This event took place Thursday, Jan. 6, 2022, in Kent, Ohio.
