Meeting Summary:

The main order of business was to certify candidates. No write-in candidates were certified as no one filed to be a write-in candidate nor has information been received from other counties where there are overlapping districts. Upon direction from the Ohio Secretary of State, the 2/11/2022 certification of candidates for State Representative and the Republican and Democratic State Central Committees were invalidated because of the uncertainty of what the state legislative districts will be.

It is unclear at this point if the May 3rd primary will be held as scheduled given that legislative districts have not been determined. There has been speculation that there may be two primaries, one for county offices and state offices that are not affected by legislative districts and one for state legislative and central committee offices that are affected by legislative districts, or that the entire primary will be rescheduled to a date after the legislative districts are determined. The Board of Elections is proceeding to prepare for a May 3rd primary absent other information from the Ohio Secretary of State. The work required to prepare for an election is extensive and time-consuming (e.g. programming the election, preparing and ordering ballots, training poll workers, arranging for voting locations, preparing to process absentee ballots, etc.)
