Patricia Guerrero received unanimous confirmation from the Commission on Judicial Appointments and on March 28 was sworn in by Governor Newsom as California’s first Latina California Supreme Court associate justice. Justice Guerrero is a first-generation Californian from the Imperial Valley.
”It made history for us and the future of California,” Chief Justice Tani G. Cantil-Sakauye told the Los Angeles Times. Cantil-Sakauye is the first Asian-Filipina American and the second woman to serve as the state’s chief justice. She added that “it is such a substantive and well-deserved appointment.”
