Speaker's Bio
Council Member Maile David is in her final council term, and so because she is not campaigning this year, her presentation to us is not a political activity. Ms. David was born in Kealakekua, Kona and is of Hawaiian, Portuguese and Filipino descent. She attended public schools and graduated from Konawaena High School in 1970.
Ms. David’s work in the Legislative Branch of the Hawai‘i County Council began as a Legislative Assistant for former Council Member K. Angel Pilago in 2005 and, in 2014, was elected as the Council District 6 Council Member. During her tenure as a councilwoman, she has held the positions of Vice Chair of the Committee on Planning, Chair of Human Services and Social Services Committee, and Chair of the Committee on Finance. A November 2020 article from “West Hawai’i Today” notes that she is “known for her calm voice, steady hand and firm commitment to procedures when chairing meetings.”
The League of Women Voters is non-partisan and works on protecting voter rights and transparency and ethics in government. We welcome all to join us.
