November 8 General Election Information

The all-important Midterms are nearly here, just two months away. The ballot will be full of key ballot measures and candidates for national, statewide, and local offices. Get ready to plan your vote now. Below is a primer on the midterm election ballot for L.A. County.

What to Vote On

Your General Election ballot will include:

• Seven statewide ballot propositions, described briefly below. For fuller information, visit the California Secretary of State’s Statewide Ballot Measures page, where you will find full information.
  • Proposition 1: Constitutional Right to Reproductive Freedom. Legislative Constitutional Amendment.
  • Proposition 26: Allows In-Person Roulette, Dice Games, Sports Wagering on Tribal Lands. Initiative Constitutional Amendment and Statute.
  • Proposition 27: Allows Online and Mobile Sports Wagering Outside Tribal Lands. Initiative Constitutional Amendment and Statute.
  • Proposition 28: Provides Additional Funding for Arts and Music Education in Public Schools. Initiative Statute.
  • Proposition 29: Requires On-Site Licensed Medical Professional at Kidney Dialysis Clinics and Establishes Other State Requirements. Initiative Statute.
  • Proposition 30: Provides Funding for Programs to Reduce Air Pollution and Prevent Wildfires by Increasing Tax on Personal Income Over $2 Million. Initiative Statute.
  • Proposition 31: Referendum On 2020 Law That Would Prohibit the Retail Sale of Certain Flavored Tobacco Products.

How to Vote

You can vote one of three ways:

• Return your marked vote-by-mail (VBM) ballot simply by mailing it using the ballot’s prepaid postage; it will be counted as long as it’s postmarked on or before Election Day, November 8, and received by November 15, 2022.
• Drop your VBM ballot into a secure ballot drop box.
• Vote in person at a vote center by 8:00 p.m. on November 8.

For additional information about your locality’s ballot, including measures and candidates specific to it, visit the Find My Election page at lavote.gov. The page will be updated as the election approaches.

Key Dates and Deadlines

Sept 1: Voters can check their status at My Voter Status to confirm their mailing address and voting status.

Sept 1: Certified List of Candidates for the Nov 8 Election will be posted.

Sept 9: Online version of state Voter Information Guide will be available.

Sept 29–Oct 18: Secretary of State’s office will mail the Official Voter Information Guide during this period.

Sept 29–Oct 18: County Election offices will mail the County Voter Information Guide during this period.

Oct 10: No later than this date, county elections officials shall begin mailing each registered voter a vote-by-mail ballot.

Oct 10–Nov 7: Early Voting sites are open.

Oct 10–Nov 8: By this date, all counties shall open ballot drop-off locations for vote-by-mail ballots. To find a location please visit: https://caearlyvoting.sos.ca.gov/.

Oct 24: Last day to register to vote for the general election. To check your voter registration status, visit My Voter Status.

Oct 25–Nov 8: Same Day Registration available. Voters can “conditionally” register and vote a provisional ballot during this time.

Oct 29*: As part of the Voter’s Choice Act, Los Angeles County will open vote centers.

Nov 8: Election Day: Polls are open throughout the state from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Nov 15: Vote by mail ballot deadline to be delivered by the United States Postal Service as long as the vote-by-mail ballot is postmarked on or before Election Day.

Dec 8: Last day for county elections officials to certify election results.

Dec 16: Statement of Vote is the final official election results certified by the Secretary of State and posted on the website.

Apr 15, 2023*: Last day for Secretary of State to release the official Supplement to the Statement of the Vote.
