League volunteers spent September 13 and 14 addressing junior civics classes at Kea`au High School. The presentations included an introduction to the history of the League of Women Voters and an overview of our work encouraging voter participation and educating voters. Over 100 students over two days heard the presentations. A discussion of why we vote and an introduction to the offices that we elect in Hawaii was presented.

Students were informed of the requirements for voter registration and voting in Hawaii. Students over the age of 16 were invited to register to vote. Most students did not have driver's licenses and were unprepared with their Social Security numbers to complete the forms in class. However, eight sixteen-year-old students registered to vote and their registration forms were submitted in person to the county clerk by a League member. Approximately 50 students took forms home to complete and hopefully mail in.
