Several volunteers spent most of October visiting schools in our service area offering students the opportunity to preregister to vote. We also had a chance to make in-classroom presentations to total of nine hundred students. As members of the League of Women Voters, we were excited to share a bit of history of the women’s suffrage movement!

We also had the pleasure of presenting the ballot measure Pros & Cons at East Los Angeles College. We were hosted by the Associated Student Union (ASU).

We quickly discovered that high school students are interested and ready to become well-informed voters. They reflected many of the common misconceptions about the root causes for the current state of our union but were open-minded about challenging those beliefs through research. We shared ways in which they can access reliable information to form opinions about the economy and the state of our election systems.

As usual, these visits represented the highlight of our voter engagement efforts!
