Climate change is a serious global issue that impacts our local community. Given a global average carbon dioxide new record high of 414.72 parts per million, international climate change scientists advise soon we will all be required to engage in both mitigation and adaptation.

The League will introduce attendees to Argonne National Laboratory’s Center for Climate Resilience and Decision Science.  Argonne scientists use “dynamic downscaling” to produce hyperlocal data to help build actionable, resilient infrastructure designs.

One of our community’s most significant threats is flooding. Our featured speakers are Jim Zay, Dupage County Board member and Chairman, Stormwater Management Planning Committee, and Sarah Hunn, P.E., CFM, Director, DuPage County Stormwater Management, who will share an update on flood control projects and water quality programs countywide. They will also discuss the allocation of the nearly $180 million funding DuPage County received through the federal American Rescue Plan Act.

Franco Coladipietro, Mayor of Bloomingdale, will share the village’s 50/50 $299,410 county grant and outcomes for Levitt Pond Stormwater Improvements.  In addition, he will discuss how stormwater threats factor into other local initiatives such as the purchase of the Indian Lakes Golf Course to protect it from development and leave it as open space.

To hear how your federal and local tax dollars are being spent to protect you from flooding, please register to attend our virtual meeting. This event is free and open to the public and attendees do not need to become a League member to attend.
