For the fourth consecutive year, LWV of Hawai`i County is honored to be a part of Hawai`i History Day for Hawai`i District by sponsoring an award for an outstanding student project that demonstrates civic engagement, advocacy, and/or voter education on strengthening democracy and transparency.
Hawai‘i History Day, a state affiliate of National History Day (NHD), is a year-long history education program that invigorates the teaching and learning of history in grades 4-12. It promotes a theme-based, research-centered model for history and civics education. Students present their projects in an exhibit, performance, documentary, essay, or website project. Hawai1i History Day culminates in the presentation and evaluation of these projects at school, district, state and national history days. It is a program of the Hawai`i Council for the Humanities.

Tehlia-Lyn and Mari share about how they chose their topic, why it is relevant to our community and young people, and 3 takeaways from the exhibit. They then take some questions from the in-person and online audience.
Their teacher is Pualeilani Fernandez, who teaches their Hawaiian history honors class and supported them in this project.

- Why we chose our topic
We chose our topic to be the National Women's Suffrage Association because we feel that it relates to us as young women ourselves. This is because a couple hundred years ago, women weren't allowed to vote entirely. But with a lot of hard work from various groups of people, women can finally vote. This topic also helps us to appreciate all the amazing things we have in our life that back in the day, people didn't have. - How we found information on our topic
We found information on our topic by researching on credible websites related to our topic. Some of these sites PBS, Library of Congress, National Geographic, National Archives, and many more. We then used then used those sites to find images, quotes, evidence, and just overall information on our topic which we added to our History Day board.
