18th December Get ready for Transformation! As many of you know, LWVUS is changing things up starting early next year and we will be directly impacted. There’s a lot of information to convey about this so that League members understand; but your basic experience of League life will be unchanged.
4th December As many of you know, LWVUS is undergoing big changes and, starting early next year, we will be directly impacted. On Tuesday, 7 January, LWVAAC will host an allmembers meeting to explain the structure change.

16th October Thank you to our dedicated volunteers and members for making a difference. Voter registration is over. LWVAAC left it all on the field this year, as you always do. Whether you volunteered once or many times, came early or stayed late, you all showed up with remarkable tenacity. You were indispensable in making it possible for nearly 900 people to vote this year, including over 550 high school students.
2nd October Here we are! In our last two weeks of voter registration for 2024. Please check out the remaining opportunities for voter registration.
18th September Voter registration is going strong! Our members and non-member volunteers are out there doing what we do best. Be sure to check out opportunities below and scroll through the sign-up sheet. High School Voter Registration is also underway!

21st August We are getting new volunteers and members every day. I offer a warm welcome to our newest members and a heartfelt thank you to all members old and new for the commitment and service you bring to our League community.
7th August This coming election season is rapidly approaching! Even before Labor Day – the traditional ‘start’ of the electoral season – we are experiencing a surge in volunteers and registration opportunities! This is fantastic!

The Annual Meeting events include adopting a local program for the ensuing year, electing officers and directors, and adopting a budget and other business as needed.

1st May The LWVUS National Convention is just around the corner! The Convention will be a hybrid event held from 27-30 June 2024 at the Washington Hilton.
17th April Alexandria mayoral candidate community interview and post-legislative 2024 session wrap up
3rd April LWVAAC congratulates our own member Anna Weber. Anna was selected as one of 2024 Leadership Center for Excellence’s list of 40 Under 40.
20th March Remember to celebrate Women’s History Month with us by signing up for the LWVAAC Tour of the Belmont-Paul House on Saturday, 30 March, at 10:00am. This will be followed by a lunch at Uno’s Pizza.

6th March We’ve got a few important volunteer opportunities below for you to check out. Please do! I also want to bring your attention to another project that’s in the works: Communications. We are in the process of assembling a team that will cover our newsletter, our press releases, our time-sensitive emails outside of the newsletter, our webpage, and our social media (mainly Facebook and Instagram; possibly X/Twitter). Do you have ideas? We want to hear them!
21th February LWVAAC had a 10-member delegation in Richmond for 2024 League Day! Anticipate a post-legislative public event late March/early April.Anticipate an Alexandria Mayoral public event mid-April (more information coming!).
Annual Meeting – Saturday, 15 June 1:00pm – 3:00pm (likely at Walter Reed). Mark your calendars for our Annual Meeting! More information will be forthcoming.
7th February Don Gurney, Kathy Matusiak, and Lori Lataillade – along with scores of volunteers – have finally completed their winter high school voter registration drive. This is a monumental effort; and, if you’ve been a part of this work, you know how rewarding it is.
We’ve also completed our annual Program Meeting and our Day of Action at Walter Reed this past weekend. More information will be coming on the results of the Program Meeting in subsequent newsletters. Our Day of Action was a great event and we drew in a couple new members and some potential partners.
17th January Check out SUFFS The Musical. We need volunteers for High School Voter Registration which runs though Feburary 1. February 4 is our Annual Program Meeting and our Day of Action 2024, which is open to the public.
3rd January Happy New Year! This is a big year coming up! As we begin this challenging year together, let’s hold on to committing ourselves to simply do the next step. The next voter to register, the next public comment on Ranked Choice Voting, the next contact with an elected representative, the next idea to offer, the next opportunity to encourage our neighbors to vote…the next step forward. Bit by bit and step by step we will meet this coming year by focusing on the next task
immediately before us. There will be a lot of noise and overwhelm around us this year; take breaks and rest when you need to and remember to keep your eyes on the next step.
