Who are Election Workers, and Why Should We Care? (on Zoom)

Who are Election Workers, and Why Should We Care? (on Zoom)

Tuesday, February 27, 2024 - 1:30pm to 3:00pm

Join the National Academy of Public Administration's Elections Working Group (EWG) for a webinar on the Election Administration Workforce.

Elections occur continuously in the US, and local election workers are the bedrock of making these elections "work."  Yet, most of us know very little about who these essential local employees are and the complexity and challenges of their jobs.

We have seen that when voters lose trust in these workers and their ability to execute elections fairly and in a nonpartisan manner, they lose confidence in the election results.  This panel will look closely at the professional election workforce to learn what these "invisible" workers do and why they deserve our respect and support.

Moderator:

Thomas Hicks, Commissioner of the Election Assistance Commission (EAC)

Panelists:

  • Kathleen Hale, Election Program Administrator at Auburn University
  • Paul Gronke, Founder of the Election and Voting Infomation Center (EVIC)
  • Paul Pate, Secretary of State Iowa
